I started my painting journey several years ago, when I lived in Seattle. I took some extensions classes at the University of Washington and I loved it.
Then I moved to Austin and my painting took the back seat, until the pandemic. I needed a creative outlet and I wasn’t sewing as often as I wanted. So I bought a cheapo watercolor set at Michael’s and started painting.
And then I found Skillshare and a million great youtube tutorials and I found I was my happiest when I was painting regularly.
Reason 1 – Consistency makes you a better painter
I could clearly see progress as I painted more regularly. My brush strokes were becoming more consistent, my water control was becoming smoother, overall painting was starting to be fun!

And this leads me to reason #2:
Reason 2 – It is so relaxing!
After a long day of working on the computer, cooking dinner, and chasing kiddos, sitting down to paint became a form of therapy for me! I could let myself go in colors and brush strokes (and silence!) – it is glorious.
Sometimes, I paint with the kids too and it is fun, but in a different way. We chit-chat, but their energy levels are much closer to mine, as opposed to the hectic energy they always exude.
Reason 3 – I get to use my paintings in patterns
When I discovered that I could digitize and turn my paintings into patters for fabric I was in heaven. I love sewing, and I love fashion. The idea that I could design my very own fabrics and have them printed and shipped to me is still mind blowing!

Surprise reason – It is fun! What can I say…. Painting is fun and I love it!
