Common Questions

General

What is samantha.makes.things?

It is the creative studio of Samantha Grimm Cabral, where hand-painted artistry meets modern technology. I specialize in surface pattern design and building tools for fellow designers.

What kind of products do you sell?

I create original surface pattern designs available as fabric, wallpaper, and home decor through Spoonflower. I also offer educational content for designers through Skillshare, and this site includes tools to help designers work more efficiently.

Where are you based, and do you ship internationally?

I'm based in Austin, Texas. My designs are printed and shipped by Spoonflower, which ships worldwide — so no matter where you are, you can order fabric, wallpaper, and home goods featuring my patterns.

How can I contact you?

The best way to reach me is by email at hello@samantha-makes.com. I read every message and do my best to respond within a few business days.

Spoonflower

Can I use your patterns for my small business?

Absolutely. Patterns purchased through Spoonflower include a license for resale on finished products like apparel or home goods.

Where can I find your designs on Spoonflower?

You can browse my full collection at https://www.spoonflower.com/designers/samgrimm. New designs are added regularly, so check back often or follow my shop to stay updated.

What fabric types are my patterns available on?

Through Spoonflower, my patterns are available on dozens of fabric types — from quilting cotton and canvas to performance knit and minky. Wallpaper and gift wrap are also available for select designs. Spoonflower lets you choose the substrate at checkout, so you can pick whatever best fits your project.

Can I request a custom colorway or scale?

I love custom requests! Reach out via email and let me know which design you have in mind and what you're envisioning. Custom work is taken on a case-by-case basis depending on my current workload.

Do you offer wholesale or bulk pricing?

Spoonflower handles all printing and fulfillment, so bulk pricing is managed through their platform — they do offer discounts for larger yardage orders. If you have a larger commercial or wholesale inquiry, feel free to reach out directly and we can talk through options.

For Designers

I’m new to Affinity Designer; is your Skillshare class right for me?

Yes! 'Pattern Party in Affinity by Canva' is built for beginners but includes deep technical dives that seasoned pros will find useful.

What tools and software do you recommend for surface pattern design?

My go-to is Affinity Designer (now by Canva) — it's powerful, affordable, and excellent for creating seamless repeating patterns. I also use Procreate for initial hand-painted artwork and Adobe Photoshop for final prep. For uploading and selling, Spoonflower is the most accessible platform to start with.

Where can I find your Skillshare class?

My class 'Pattern Party in Affinity by Canva' is available on Skillshare at https://skl.sh/4smHu6o. It walks you through building seamless repeat patterns from scratch, even if you've never used Affinity Designer before.

Do you offer 1:1 coaching or consulting?

I occasionally open spots for 1:1 sessions covering Affinity Designer, pattern design workflow, and getting started on Spoonflower. The best way to find out if I have availability is to send me an email — I'd love to hear about your goals.

Do you have more classes or tutorials planned?

Yes! I'm always working on new educational content. Follow me on Skillshare or sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know when something new drops.

Technical

Why did you build an AI Vision Analyzer?

To bridge the gap between art and efficiency. It ensures my designs are discoverable and accurately described without taking time away from my painting process.

Licensing & Commercial Use

Can I use your patterns on products I sell on Etsy or at markets?

Yes! Patterns purchased through Spoonflower come with a license that allows you to sell finished goods — like tote bags, pillows, clothing, or quilts — made from that fabric. You're supporting an independent designer every time you buy, and I love seeing what makers create.

What's not allowed under the Spoonflower license?

The Spoonflower license covers physical finished goods, but you may not resell the digital design files themselves, use the patterns in mass-manufactured products (printed outside Spoonflower), or claim the artwork as your own. For full license details, refer to Spoonflower's Terms of Service.

Do you offer extended commercial licenses for larger businesses?

For larger-scale commercial use beyond what Spoonflower's standard license covers — such as licensing a pattern for a product line or brand collaboration — please reach out directly. I'm open to discussing terms on a case-by-case basis.
